English Language Arts 8, Part 2

This course strengthens students’ ability to think critically, write persuasively, and communicate effectively through multiple modes. Students will enhance their vocabulary and apply advanced writing strategies while exploring literary and informational texts. Emphasis is placed on argumentation and persuasion in both writing and speech, as well as on interpreting and evaluating media. Students will also identify and practice each phase of the research process, culminating in a fully developed research paper.

This is the second course in the two-part English Language Arts 8 series and serves as preparation for high school-level English courses.

Course Objective

The objective of English Language Arts 8 – Part 2 is to equip students with advanced communication and critical thinking skills through the study of literature, informational texts, persuasive writing, and research. Students will refine their vocabulary, strengthen their argumentative and narrative writing, and learn to evaluate and respond to various forms of media. They will also develop and present persuasive speeches, write structured research papers using credible sources, and analyze literary elements within a novel. This course prepares students for the demands of high school English by fostering clarity, confidence, and depth in both written and spoken expression.
