English Language Arts 8, Part 1

This course invites students to refine their writing voice, strengthen their reading comprehension, and expand their communication abilities. Students will learn how to write naturally and persuasively, express themselves with confidence, and explore a variety of genres through both creative and analytical assignments. The course emphasizes fluency in both reading and writing, and encourages students to engage with diverse texts critically and thoughtfully.

As part of the curriculum, students are required to complete a minimum of 15 hours of nonfiction reading, in addition to reading the assigned course novel.

This is the first course in a two-part series for Eighth-Grade English Language Arts.

Course Objective

The objective of English Language Arts 8 – Part 1 is to strengthen students’ reading, writing, and communication skills through deep engagement with literature, nonfiction texts, and structured writing exercises. Students will develop their ability to read critically, express ideas clearly, and write with purpose and voice. Emphasis is placed on understanding how language works, composing well-organized written pieces, and analyzing literary elements. Through the study of the required novel and independent nonfiction reading, students will build fluency, expand vocabulary, and prepare for high school English by practicing essential skills in both creative and analytical contexts.
